About Loren Butalid
The Riza Loren Roxas Butalid Foundation Inc. was established to honor the memory of Loren Butalid, a bright young soul who departed this world on January 21, 2002 in the UAE at the tender age of 14. Survived by her family—her father, Rezin; mother, Lourdes; brother, Renjie; and sisters, Loubelle and Lorel—Loren’s legacy continues to live on.
Born in the Philippines, Loren relocated to the UAE with her family just before her third birthday. Her early education took place at the Al Ain English Speaking School, followed by a transfer to the International School of Choueifat Al Ain. Loren’s life was characterized by her warm smile, boundless kindness, and an innate generosity that endeared her to all who knew her. An active member of the Al Ain community, Loren’s involvement spanned the Al Ain Dance Troupe Ensemble, the Al Ain Girl Guides, and a myriad of sports activities, with swimming being a particular passion.
It is this spirit of community and compassion that the Loren Foundation seeks to perpetuate. Founded to provide underprivileged yet deserving children in the Philippines with opportunities for a brighter future, the Loren Foundation is a testament to Loren’s enduring smile and generous heart.
The Loren Foundation was officially inaugurated on December 27, 2003, with the staging of the inaugural “To Loren With Love” show at the Intercontinental Resort Al Ain in the UAE. The event was a resounding success, drawing nearly a thousand attendees and featuring close to two hundred participants, a fitting tribute to Loren’s legacy.
Since its inception, the Loren Foundation has diligently pursued its mission, offering scholarships to students from Cebu, Philippines, establishing a Learning Resource Centre at the Dakit Elementary School, and constructing homes through Gawad Kalinga to uplift the impoverished. Each initiative is a reflection of the Loren Foundation’s commitment to fostering educational and social opportunities, inspired by the life and spirit of Loren Butalid.
